Voice calls
You can call any friend straight from your chat list, and a call runs as a slim bar at the top so the rest of the app keeps working.
Calling is not a separate app or a separate screen. Every friend in Chat has a phone button beside their name, and once a call connects it becomes a strip across the top with a timer — you can keep reading your page, open a collection, or go somewhere else while you talk. Being called is designed around the fact that you cannot always answer: as well as accepting or declining you can silence the ring, or send one of three ready-made replies without picking up.
How to
- Call one of your friendsYou would rather talk than type.
- Answer a call — or turn it down without being rudeSomeone is calling and you may or may not be able to talk.
What it can do
- Call a friend with one tap from your chat list
- See who is calling before you answer, with their name and picture
- Silence a ring without declining it
- Decline with a ready-made message instead of just hanging up
- Mute your microphone during a call
- Add another person to a call in progress
- Start a group call from the chat list
- Keep using the rest of the app while a call is running
Worth knowing
⭐ A call in progress has two extra controls on the bar: + Invite adds another person to the call, and a race chip challenges whoever you are talking to in DatsPetGame — calling someone is the usual way a race starts.
⚠️ A group call is a different starting point, not a bigger version of this one: it has its own Group call button at the top of your chat list.
Who can see it
Calling is between you and your friends — the Chat area is marked Private — only you, and you can only call people you are connected to. See DatsConnection and Who can see what.
